We use best-of-breed software development tools.

Like Pivotal Tracker and Review Board. When we need a tool that doesn’t already exist, we write it ourselves (usually in Python). We use whatever languages and operating systems are best suited to a given project, whether it’s JavaScript, C++ or Python on OS X, Windows or Linux. Our developers must be excited to learn new skills and put them to practical use immediately. We know that developers are only as good as their tools. We also know that developers can be -- how shall we put it? -- particular about the hardware they use. So we give each Salsitista a budget and let them choose their dream computer, be it a top-of-the-line 27” iMac or a custom-built Windows box with a screaming quad-core i7, SSD, dual monitors and just the right processor fan.

We never ship a line of code without a code review, and we are constantly improving our development procedures and testing tools and methodology.
